In November 2004, HP released the LaserJet 4345mfp, a copier-based multifunction printer (print, copy, scan and fax). Print speed was OEM-rated at up to 45 pages per minute (ppm) with a duty cycle of 200,000 pages per month.

Two years later (November 2006) HP launched the LaserJet M4345 MFP with the same print specifications as its predecessor, but updated with a USB port, larger hard drive, scan-to-email capability and Energy Star compliance.

HP offers only one replacement cartridge version (Q5945A) with a standard yield of 18,000 pages for use in both models. This cartridge is very similar in appearance to the Q1339A used in the HP LaserJet 4300. Internally the cartridges are also similar, with many of Static Control's replacement 4300 components being qualified for use in the 4345mfp/M4345 MFP cartridge.

Both the 4345mfp and M4345 MFP ship with a full yield print cartridge that requires a chip for correct printer operation. Note, however, that chips used in the 4300's Q1339A and the 4345mfp/M4345 MFP's Q5945A are not interchangeable. Static Control offers not only dedicated chips for these two cartridges, but also has developed a universal chip that is qualified for use in either the Q1339A or Q5945A cartridge with comparable OEM functionality in both.
